General elections set to be held on May 22, 2016
The election of deputies to the 14th National Assembly and People’s Councils at all levels of the 2016-20 tenure will take place on May 22, 2016, which is a Sunday in line with the law.

The date was approved by the NA on November 24 during the 13th legislature’s 10th session.
The deputies also approved the establishment of the National Electoral Council (EC) and the personnel structure of the council as proposed by the NA Standing Committee.
Accordingly, the EC will have 21 members, including a Chairman, four Vice Chairmen, and 16 members representing bodies and organisations in the political system,
The Standing Committee of the National Assembly proposed that NA Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung be the EC Chairman. The nomination will be voted on by the NA.
During the morning session on November 24, the legislature is scheduled to continue discussing the nominees for the EC and vote on the draft revised Civil Code and the revised Resolution on Regulations of National Assembly Sessions.
