In his speech at Thursday’s closing ceremony of the 15th session of the Da Nang People’s Council (PC) in its 8th tenure for the 2011 - 2016 term, municipal PC Chairman Tran Tho urged all local relevant agencies to make every effort to effectively implement the city’s key tasks for the year ahead.

Top priority will be given to ensuring local sustainable economic development, fulfilling the year’s targets for socio-economic growth, security and defence, and exceeding the total tax collection targets.

Better solutions will be found for dealing with urgent matters raised by local voters, and the serious environmental pollution and flooding problems at the construction sites of delayed projects.

One focus will be on effectively implementing local social welfare policies and the poverty reduction programme, and ensuring a happy and safe Tet for local residents.  Special attention will be paid to improving the quality of healthcare services in the city and accelerating administrative reforms.

The municipal People’s Committee Chairman, Mr Huynh Duc Tho, said that Da Nang is aiming to attract 350 million USD in FDI capital in 2016.  More representative offices of the city will be opened in Japan and South Korea in order to attract more FDI inflows into the local priorities of software production and outsourcing and the hi-tech industry.

More specialised tourism products will be developed such as river, spiritual, historical, countryside and eco-tourism tours.  Further emphasis will be placed on constructing more golf courses and developing more international-standard tourist areas in the city.

Finally, greater efforts will be made to promote the opening of new direct flights between Da Nang and more foreign countries worldwide, as well as increase the number of domestic and international flights, in order to attract more visitors and investors to the city.  More effective measures will be taken to reduce the number of traffic accidents in the city and ensure food safety and hygiene.
