Meeting marks 85th anniversary of founding of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union

A meeting took place in Da Nang last Friday to mark the 85th anniversary of the founding of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union (26 March).

In his opening speech, the Secretary of the municipal Youth Union (YU), Mr Nguyen Ba Canh, remarked “Over the past 85 years, YU members have upheld the glorious traditions of former YU members.  Many meaningful volunteer programmes have been carried out in the city.  Included were ‘Gop Da Xay Dung Truong Sa’ (Contributing Bricks to Build Truong Sa Islands), ‘Nghia Tinh Bien Gioi Hai Dao’ (Sentiment of Island Borders), ‘Tuoi Tre Voi Van Hoa Giao Thong’ (Youth with Traffic Culture), ‘Thanh Nien Thanh Pho 5 Khong’ (The Youth of a City with 5 No’s), and ‘Biet Chao Hoi, Biet Tuoi Cuoi, Biet Cam On, Biet Xin Loi’ (Smiling and Saying Hello, Thank You and Sorry).  In addition, summer volunteer and giving strength in the exam season campaigns have been organised effectively in the city”.

Secretary Canh vowed that his organisation would continue its efforts to improve the quality of YU activities in the city, and effectively implement this year’s key programmes: ‘Xung Kich Phat Trien Kinh Te Xa Hoi’ (Promoting Socio-Economic Growth) and ‘Dong Hanh Cung Thanh Nien Lap Than, Lap Nghiep’ (Giving Job Assistance to Young People).

Speaking at the event, municipal Party Committee Deputy Secretary Vo Cong Tri stressed the need for the YU to prepare well for the 2017 municipal YU Congress.  He also took the opportunity to ask relevant agencies to facilitate young people to become involved in the city’s economic, social and cultural activities.

Also at the event, Deputy Secretary Tri presented the laudatory banner with the written words '85 Years of Dedication and Maturity’ to the municipal YU.  In addition, 85 outstanding YU members were honoured for their active involvement in social activities in the city over recent years.
