The participants observed a minute's silence to commemorate the heroic martyrs who laid down their lives for the nation’s re-unification.

They also offered incense at a memorial stele in Phuoc Ninh valley in Hai Chau District which is for martyrs who died in the resistance war against the French colonialists between 1858 and 1860.

Also on the same day, they visited and presented gifts to some local social policy beneficiaries in Hoa Vang and Thanh Khe districts.  The recipients were Mr Ngo Thanh Nhi, a war invalid living in Hoa Vang District’s Quan Nam 1 village, 103-year-old heroic Vietnamese mother Nguyen Thi Lan in the district’s Quan Nam 5 village, and 99-year-old heroic Vietnamese mothers Nguyen Thi Tung and Tran Thi Tan, both in Thanh Khe District.

On behalf of the city leaders, Deputy Secretary Tri expressed his deep gratitude to them for their great sacrifices for the reunification of the country.

Also to mark the occasion, municipal People’s Committee Chairman Huynh Duc Tho visited and gave a gift to 66-year-old People's Armed Forces Hero Nguyen Minh Sang in Hai Chau District.
