During his reception on Tuesday for Mr Giles Lever, the Ambassador of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to Viet Nam, the Vice Chairman of Da Nang People’s Committee, Mr Ho Ky Minh, asked the Ambassador to do his utmost to appeal for more businesses from his country to seek investment opportunities in the city.

Vice Chairman Minh said that the city is in need of assistance from the UK to upgrade the Viet Nam-UK Institute for Research and Executive Education into the Viet Nam-UK International University.  He also took the opportunity to ask the UK government to grant more scholarships for the city’s education officials, lecturers and students to study at UK universities.

In addition, the city leader hoped that the UK would implement more charitable programmes in the city to help local AO victims.  He added that the bilateral cooperative relationships with the UK in the economy, education and culture would be further deepened in the years ahead.

In reply, the British diplomat remarked that, whilst Viet Nam is already one of the top 10 countries for receiving scholarships from his government, the UK would indeed give more scholarships to Da Nang students.

Ambassador Lever pledged to make greater efforts to appeal for more UK businesses to invest in the city in such aspects as education, aviation and infrastructure.  He said that he would like to the city authorities to facilitate the UK Embassy in Viet Nam to establish a visa service centre in the city in the near future.
