The Da Nang leaders have always listened to constructive recommendations made by local retirees about the ways to promote the city’s development and to meet the aspirations of local Party members and residents.

This statement was made by municipal Party Committee (PC) Secretary Nguyen Xuan Anh during a recent meeting between the city leaders and some local retirees. They were former senior officials, high-ranking military officers and leaders of the former Quang Nam-Da Nang authorities, all now living in the city.
Municipal PC Deputy Secretary Vo Cong Tri briefed the retirees on the city’s socio-economic developments, and its defence and security, over the first 8 months of this year. During the period, the city saw stable economic growth compared with the same period last year.
The retirees highly praised the city leaders for their great efforts dealing with highly concerning matters in a timely fashion, including the recent illegal deforestation on the Son Tra Peninsula, and the capsizing of the Thao Van 2 trip boat in early June.

They also proposed that the city authorities should take more effective measures to attract more FDI inflows into the city, resolve local environmental pollution hotspots, deal with delayed local projects, and tighten their management of local tourism activities.
As for the city’s Party building work, the retirees stressed the need to promote local publicity and training activities to enhance the trust of local residents in the leadership of the Party, as well as to impose heavier penalties for corruption.
In particular, Deputy Secretary Tri noted that the city’s leaders are intending to expand the existing headquarters of the municipal PC at 72 Bach Dang. He explained that the construction density at the site is 80%, 30% higher than the locally permitted limit. Furthermore, the expansion of the site will be one of the projects in preparation for the 25th Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit which will take place in the city in October 2017.
Meanwhile, the current headquarters of the municipal Fatherland Front Committee (FFC) at 70 Bach Dang has deteriorated over recent years. Therefore, the city leaders are planned to remove the FFC’s headquarters to the building at 10-12 Tran Phu which was formerly the headquarters of some government agencies. The removal aims to provide the space for the expansion of the headquarters of the municipal PC.
The retirees stressed the need for the city authorities to implement the expansion economically and effectively.
With regard to local urban planning, the city authorities will make a master plan for developing the western side of the city and promote socio-economic cooperation with some northwestern districts of Quang Nam Province in the years ahead. Special attention will be paid to conducting landscape improvements along both banks of the Han River.
