The meeting was co-chaired by Da Nang’s Party Committee Secretary Mr Nguyen Xuan Anh and the Governor of Salavan Province Mr Sysouvanh Vongchomsy.

Secretary Anh spoke highly of the Laotian province’s remarkable socio-economic developments over recent years.  He also expressed his delight at the fruitful results from the many support programmes with Salavan during the 2013 - 2017 period.

In particular, a total of 18.405 billion VND from the Da Nang budget has been spent on implementing 7 social welfare projects in the province during that period.  To date, 9.145 billion VND has been used economically and effectively, whilst the remaining 9.26 billion VND will be used in 2016 and 2017.

Between 2013 and 2015, 3 full tuition fee university scholarships, and 2 full tuition fee postgraduate ones, were granted by Da Nang to Lao students every year.  Most of the graduates from the city’s educational institutes have since been appointed as leaders or managers at their places of work in Salavan Province.

In 2014, Da Nang provided all the blackboards and furniture, worth a total of 400 million VND, to a primary school in the province.  This year, 7.7 billion VND from the city budget was spent on upgrading Salavan Province's Khongsedone Junior High School into an exemplary school of the Da Nang-Salavan friendship relationship.

In 2013, 2014 and 2016, members of Da Nang’s Youth Union, including young doctors, government employees and university students, carried out voluntary work in Salavan Province.

This year, the city plans to spend 7.1 billion VND from its budget on building a Vietnamese Language Centre in the province.

Also at the working session, Secretary Anh pledged to offer 10 full and 8 half tuition fee university and postgraduate scholarships to provincial students every year from 2018 - 2022.  During that period, 2 teachers from Da Nang will be sent to the Lao province’s Vietnamese Language Centre to teach the Vietnamese language every year.  Financial assistance will be given to construct a multi-functional house at the Da Nang-Salavan Friendship Junior High School, and buy 5 computers for the school.  Also, 20 officials from the province’s Department of Education and Sports and the Department of Agriculture and Forestry will be sent to Da Nang to gain experience from their counterparts here.  Secretary Anh also gave 440 million VND from the city budget to the province to implement some local social welfare activities.  The total funding over the period amounts to 20.74 billion VND.

Previously, the group of Da Nang leaders had visited the Salavan’s Office of Project Management and Investment Cooperation Centre, which is under the management of the Da Nang Department of Planning and Investment.  Secretary Anh encouraged the Centre’s staff to make every effort to fufil their assigned tasks.
