Discussions about local issues of highest concern
On Thursday, representatives from the Da Nang People’s Council (PC) and local relevant agencies met to discuss local issues of high concern.
It was reported that by October, the total of State tax collections in the city had already surpassed the year’s target by 2.9% to stand at nearly 13,000 billion VND, up 32.5% against the same period last year.
At the same point in time, tax debts in the city had hit nearly 1,200 billion VND, an increase of over 9.6% compared with the same period last year.
Regarding tasks for next year, the municipal Taxation Department will take stronger measures to reduce the tax collection losses to the city’s budget from local hotels and restaurants, along with petroleum and transportation service providers and others. Also, special attention will be paid to collecting tax arrears, and tightening the management of apartment sales at local condotels.
According to the municipal People’s Court, since the start of this year the city’s judicial sector resolved 8,675 cases. In particular, 1,004 criminal cases involving 1,750 offenders have been dealt with. However, criminal cases are becoming more and more sophisticated. There have been 11 murders in the city, plus 139 drug-related and 57 fraudulent appropriation of property cases.
The Head of the Legislative Board of the municipal PC, Mr Phan Thanh Long, stressed the need to ensure that there are no reports of wrongful convictions or imprisonments in the city.
Representatives from the PC’s Board of Urban Affairs reviewed the handling of environmental pollution at such local hotspots as the Khanh Son Waste Dump, the Tho Quang Fishing Wharf, and the Cau Do (Red Bridge) River.
There were discussions about choosing a suitable site for the construction of a new waste dump to replace the existing Khanh Son, and developing specific plans for exploiting, processing and using natural minerals by 2020 with a vision towards 2030.
The Board’s members suggested that importance should be attached to dealing with the problem of environmental pollution at vacant land lots and factories located in local residential areas. It was also proposed that more garbage recycling projects should be deployed in the years ahead.
As for educational issues, the city is now home to 4 public kindergartens, 183 pre-schools, 100 primary, 60 junior and 27 senior high schools. 100% of local primary school pupils now study 2 sessions per day.
Representatives from the municipal Department of Education and Training suggested that stronger measures should be taken to solve the current problem of local pupils driving motorcycles to school. They also stressed the need to earmark land plots for the construction of day-care centres for children of workers in industrial parks and export processing zones, and to issue more preferential policies for teachers at non-public pre-schools.
The above suggestions will be presented at the upcoming 3rd session of the city’s People’s Council which will take place between 7 and 9 December.
