Regarding adjustments to the local industrial development strategies, Chairman Tho encouraged the existing businesses in Son Tra District’s An Don Industrial Park (IP) to relocate their production establishments to other locations.  The intention is to convert this IP into residential land in the near future.  Chairman Tho pledged that the local authorities would help the displaced businesses as there are 23 years left before their land lease term expires.

He also agreed with the adjustments to local land use planning by 2020, and to the use of land resources over the 2016 – 2020 period.  He stressed, however, the need to promote reforestation at previously forested sites used for deploying the city’s urban expansion projects over recent years, as well as to ensure that the local forest cover ratio is 43%.

It was reported that the city is likely to have fulfilled this year’s socio-economic targets, with ensured local security and defence.  Greater efforts have been made to effectively shift the city’s economic structure towards the direction of service-industry-agriculture in order to make more breakthroughs in its progress.

By the end of this year, the total value of local services is likely to have fulfilled 96.5% of the year’s target, up 9.4% compared with last year.  The total export and import turnover of goods are expected to have hit 1,3 billion USD and over 1,1 billion USD respectively.

To date, the city has attracted 85 tourism projects with a total registered investment capital of 7.2 billion USD.  The number of tourist arrivals to the city is likely to have exceeded the year’s target by 7.2% to reach 5.51 million, up 17.7% against last year.

The total of State tax collections in the city is predicted to have surpassed the year’s target by 21.9% to stand at over 18,227 billion VND.

As for key tasks for next year, the focus will be on shifting the city’s economic structure more towards services, deploying a project for developing local businesses by 2020, and ensuring an economic growth rate of up to 10%.

Importance will be attached to developing hi-tech and environmentally-friendly  projects, promoting support industries, and to manufacturing new industrial materials and other highly competitive products.

Even more effective measures will be taken to accelerate the progress of key development projects, and to assist businesses in dealing with the difficulties facing them.

Special heed will be paid to enhancing administrative reforms, increasing the efficiency of the State management of local issues, fighting against corruption, and developing plans for implementing ‘ The Year for APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation) 2017’ programme.
