On Thursday, a group of Da Nang’s leaders, led by People’s Committee Vice Chairman Ho Ky Minh, paid a visit to the Consulate General of Russia in the city and extended their best wishes to the consular staff for New Year 2017.

Vice Chairman Minh proudly affirmed that the current bilateral friendship and cooperation between Viet Nam and Russia has been deepened, based on that with the former Soviet Union, and has developed into the bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership as of now.

Over recent years, the fruitful bilateral cooperative ties between Da Nang and some Russian localities have helped to accelerate the relationship between the 2 countries, but have yet to fully tap their great potential and strengths.  Therefore, Vice Chairman Minh said he would like the Russian Consul General, Mr Brovarets Andrei Petrovich, to act as a bridge in bolstering bilateral cooperation with some more Russian localities in tourism, the maritime economy, trade, investment and high-level delegation exchanges.

In addition, Vice Chairman Minh extended his deepest condolences to the Russian government and victims’ families over the recent military aeroplane accident.  The TU-154 aircraft crashed in the Black Sea on 25 December on its way from Russia’s Sochi to Syria’s Lattakia.  There were a total of 8 crew members and 84 passengers on board.

In reply, Consul General Petrovich vowed that he would make every effort to boost bilateral cooperative ties with Da Nang, and with Viet Nam as a whole.  He noted that Russia is now focusing on developing its Far East region, thereby ensuring closer links with Asia-Pacific countries.  Thanks to this, even more cooperative opportunities between Da Nang and the Far East region will be opened, especially the establishment of bilateral cooperation between the ports of Da Nang and Vladivostok City, and the opening of new direct flights between the 2 cities in the future.

The Russia diplomat also congratulated Da Nang on being selected to host the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week (AELW) in November 2017.  He also said he hoped that the city authorities would assist his agency in hosting receptions for leaders of Russian businesses during their stay in the city whilst attending AELW 2017.
