Municipal People’s Committee Vice Chairman Nguyen Ngoc Tuan affirmed that Da Nang targets to become an environmentally-friendly city by 2020, with a focus on completely resolving the 13 local environmental pollution hotspots by 2020, and all flood points by 2018.

Meanwhile, a PCl member underlined the need for the city authorities to identify the specific responsibilities of the heads of relevant agencies in dealing with the current environmental pollution problems.

As for the construction of a solid waste treatment complex in Hoa Vang District, Secretary Anh remarked that the city leaders have given the go-ahead for this project.  The selection of a suitable site in the district for the construction work and the application of waste treatment technologies will take account of the need to ensure environmental sanitation.

With regard to local construction projects, municipal Department of Construction Director Vu Quang Hung said that effective measures have been taken to repair the seriously deteriorated social housing apartments.

Vice Chairman Tuan noted that the Department of Construction will make plans for managing and using local apartment buildings in the 1st quarter of next year. Meanwhile, Secretary Anh stressed the need to carefully appraise the quality of the apartments, and not to choose construction contractors with a low capacity for the new social housing projects.

Municipal Department of Transport Director Le Van Trung said that a total of 158 parking areas will be constructed across the city in the years ahead, 25 of which will be in Son Tra District.  Following approval by the city authorities, appeals will be made for public investment into the construction of these parking areas.

As regards criminals in the city, Secretary Anh raised his concern over the number of drug-related crimes increasing at an alarming rate, especially the use of synthetic drugs.  He also showed his strong determination to combat social evils to guarantee the safety of local residents.

The PCl members proposed that stronger measures should be taken to crack down on criminals and increase the monitoring of local hotels, bars, discotheques, and other entertainment facilities.

Special attention should be paid to diversifying the rehabiliation programmes and measures for drug addicts in medical establishments, and in the community as a whole.

The Director of the Department of Police, Colonel Le Van Tam, highlighted the important role of relevant agencies and associations in helping drug addicts to have the courage to quit using drugs and confidently reintegrate into the community, as well as providing vocational training courses for those who successfully undergo such programmes.  He also pledged that more effective solutions would be found to ensure security in all local aspects in a bid to build Da Nang into a peaceful and liveable city for both locals and visitors.
