The Association is responsible for raising public awareness of preventing bomb and mine accidents, helping poor victims of bombs and mines from Da Nang and its neighbouring localities, and deploying programmes for dealing with unexploded ordnances (UXOs) left over from the war.

Municipal People’s Committee Vice Chairman Ho Ky Minh stressed the need for the Association to strictly comply with its principles and purposes.  In particular, special heed should be paid to encouraging more foreign countries, and international organisations worldwide, to become actively involved in assisting UXO clearance programmes in Da Nang, and in Viet Nam as a whole.

Vice Chairman Minh also urged the newly-established Association to offer suggestions to the city authorities about releasing policies dealing with UXOs-related issues, with a focus on imposing penalties on the illegal collection and storage of UXOs left over from the war.

At the event, 17 people were elected to the Association’s Executive Board.  The former Deputy Chief of Staff of the Military Zone 5 High Command of the Viet Nam People’s Army, Major General Nguyen Viet Hoang, was elected Chairman of the Association cum Head of its Mobilisation Board.
