President Tran Dai Quang made the request at a ceremony held in Ha Noi on January 3 to celebrate 40 years of the academy’s traditional day and receive the Independence Order, first class.

Highlighting its achievements over the previous four decades of construction, development and maturity, the State leader urged the Viet Nam People’s Army as a whole and the academy in particular to continue renovating and promoting their key role in the cause of strengthening national defence strength and safeguarding the socialist Vietnamese homeland.

He asked the academy to give further attention to researching solutions to frustrate hostile forces’ plots of 'peaceful evolution', turmoil, promotion of 'self-evolution' and 'self-transformation', and demand for the depoliticisation of armed forces, political pluralism and multi-party regime.

The institution was also requested to boost summarization of reality and the research of Viet Nam’s defence and military science, military arts and military culture, seeking to effectively serve training tasks, contribute to building and developing the Vietnamese defence and military theory and military arts, as well as provide scientific arguments to supplement and finalise the Party and State’s guidelines and policies on national construction and protection.

President Quang insisted that the academy expand international cooperation in order to enhance the qualification of officials and lecturers, thereby contributing to improving the quality of its training and research work.

The institution must focus on building a strong and pure Party organisation in terms of politics, ideology and morality, and seriously and effectively implement resolutions on the acceleration of Party building and rectification, and promotion of the study and following of President Ho Chi Minh’s thought, morality and lifestyle, he specified.

At the ceremony, on behalf of the Party and State leaders, President Quang pinned the Independence Order, first class, on the National Defence Academy’s traditional flag.
