Attending the event were municipal PC Vice Chairmen Ho Ky Minh and Tran Van Mien, along with representatives from the city’s Consulates General of Russia and Laos.

Addressing the meeting, Vice Chairman Minh briefed the invitees on Da Nang’s socio-economic achievements over the past year.  Most notably, the city has established bilateral friendship and cooperative relationships with 38 localities in 19 countries and territories worldwide.

In addition, the city has become a trusted partner of foreign non-governmental organisations (NGOs).  During 2016, the city sought over 177.5 billion VND in aid from 95 projects and programmes run by foreign NGOs.  Included were the One Sky Da Nang care centre and kindergarten for needy children, and a programme to promote the urban areas in Son Tra District.

The city leader remarked that 2017 is expected to be a meaningful year for the city’s progress as it has been selected to host the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week.  He noted that this large-scale international event will help the city to advertise its beautiful images to international friends.  He also said he hoped that local ex-pats will continue their joint efforts with the local authorities and residents in making Da Nang a more prosperous, peaceful, civilised and modern city in the future.

At the event, 34 foreign organisations and 32 individuals were awarded Certificates of Merit from the PC in recognition of their active involvement in strengthening international friendship, humanitarian aid work in the city, and local growth.
