During 2016, the city authorities issued over 1,500 instruction documents, distributed 70,000 leaflets, and displayed 8,000 banners on local streets to encourage the general public to become more actively involved in this practical programme.  Also, 1,800 street parades of beautifully decorated vehicles took place, and other publicity activities were conducted across the city.

Most notably, the city has seen many positive results from dealing with such current problems blighting the city’s image as the harassment of tourists and itinerant beggars on local streets.  There have also been improvements in interpersonal communications in public places and local residential areas.  Many local residents have done good deeds, thereby creating  a good impression of a friendly and hospitable city for both domestic and foreign visitors.

At a meeting on Thursday to review the city’s implementation of the programme last year, Vice Chairman of Ngu Hanh Son District People’s Committee (PC) Nguyen Hoa proposed that the city authorities should take more specific measures to completely resolve local illegal street vendors who insist on begging passers-by to buy their goods.  One way would be created  jobs for wandering vendors, especially older and disabled ones.

Addressing the meeting, municipal PC Vice Chairman Nguyen Ngoc Tuan highly applauded the relevant local agencies for their great efforts in effectively implementing the city’s Directive No 43-CT/TU regarding promoting the ‘Culture and Urban Civilisation’ programme over the past 2 years.

With regard to this year’s key tasks, Vice Chairman Tuan underlined the need to implement the city’s project aimed at building a more cultured and civilised urban lifestyle over the 2017 – 2020 period, thereby laying a firm foundation for deploying the ‘City of 4 Safe Programmes’ campaign.

He also underlined the urgency to ensure local security and traffic safety during this year’s important socio-political events, especially the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week in November 2017.

The local police forces must conduct even more crackdowns on criminals to ensure a healthy and safe tourism environment for visitors.  Greater efforts should be made to raise public awareness about strictly obeying the national traffic regulations.

Special heed should be paid to developing even more cultural works in a bid to enhance the cultural and spiritual lives of local residents.

Also at the meeting, 28 units, including the DA NANG Newspaper, and 18 individuals were honoured with Certificates of Merit from the municipal PC Chairman in recognition of their remarkable achievements in implementing the ‘Year for Culture and Urban Civilisation’ programme last year.
