The APEC Economic Leaders’ Week 2017 (AELW) will take place in Da Nang in November, and preparations are well underway for this major international event.

In particular, the city authorities appealed for local businesses to invest in floral displays and lighting decorations for the 2017 Tet Festival, and these decorations will remain until AELW.  Thanks to this, such major streets as 2 September, Duy Tan and Nguyen Van Linh will remain sparkling every evening.

Most notably, the welcome gates installed with LED lighting systems along Nguyen Van Linh showcase the image of Da Nang - a modern city being on track for international integration.  Meanwhile, other welcome gates with APEC 2017 images will leave a deep impression on visitors who enter the inner city from the Da Nang International Airport.

In addition, some key projects in preparation for AELW are progressing well.  Included are the expansion of Da Nang International Airport, and the construction of a conference hall.  Greater efforts have been made to train human resources, as well as ensure the security, safety, reception and medical preparedness for AELW.

Various publicity and advertisement activities about this large-scale international event have been implemented across the city.

Banners with the written words ‘Welcome in APEC Viet Nam Year 2017’ are being displayed on some major streets and approach roads to the Tran Thi Ly Bridge.

The municipal Department of Tourism has cooperated with prestigious travel agencies and tourism corporations nationwide to organise an ‘Advertising Da Nang’s Tourism 2017’ programme.  The intention is to introduce the city’s useful tourism information, its new products and its tourism promotion programmes in the Ho Chi Minh City market.

By late last year, around 22,000 guestrooms from nearly 600 accommodation establishments had been put into use to meet the increasing demands of visitors arriving in the city.  Many of them are ready for serving AELW guests.

In attempting to make visits to the city more convenient, a mobile application called ‘Danang FantastiCity’ has been introduced.  The application provides visitors with useful tourism information about the city, its attractive tours and its popular attractions, along with any on-going tourism programmes.  It can be downloaded onto their smartphones, which allows it to be viewed later without wifi or 3G.  A multifunctional ‘Danang Pass’ card will increase the convenience and safety of visitors in payment and shopping in the locality.  A new international terminal at Da Nang International Airport is expected to be put into use in April.  It will be one of the city’s most effective tourism stimulation factors.

During his speech at a monthly meeting on 9 February, Da Nang People’s Committee Chairman Huynh Duc Tho urged local relevant agencies to develop plans to organise various events on the sidelines of the AELW in the first quarter of this year in order to attract more multinational corporations and large foreign investors to attend.  This will be a great opportunity for the city to promote its beauty and great potential to foreign investors.
