During his speech at a monthly meeting on Thursday, Da Nang People’s Committee Chairman Huynh Duc Tho remarked, “One of the top priorities in 2017 is to ensure the success of the APEC Economic Leaders' Week (AELW) 2017 in November.  The aim is to give greater prominence to Da Nang, and Viet Nam as a whole, in the world arena.”

Chairman Tho underlined the need for local relevant agencies to organise various events on the sidelines of the AELW in order to attract more multinational corporations and large foreign investors to attend.  This will be a great opportunity for the city to promote its beauty and great potential to foreign investors, as well as to seek bilateral cooperative ties with them to promote the development of especially the hi-tech, information technology, services, tourism and logistics sectors in the city.  Greater efforts should be made to appeal for more funding for the city’s projects to relocate the existing railway station and to build the Lien Chieu Port.

Also at the meeting, the key tasks for this year were identified.  Special attention will be paid to increasing the competitiveness of the local economy, attracting more domestic and FDI inflows into the city, and encouraging start-up activities.

Importance will be attached to effectively implementing the ‘City of 4 Safe Programmes’ campaign, and the ‘5 No's, 3 Yes's’ programme, as well as to ensuring urban order, security and environmental protection.  The emphasis will be on strengthening local government, boosting administrative reforms, enhancing the efficiency of State management, and making Da Nang a smarter city.

Chairman Tho remarked that local leaders will receive residents to deal more effectively with their complaints and denunciations, and to listen to their good proposals and outstanding ideas for promoting the city’s progress.

The city leader agreed with the Chairman of the Hai Chau District People’s Committee, Mr Le Anh, about introducing car parking fees in the district.  He urged the municipal Department of Transport to develop and submit a parking fee collection plan at the forthcoming People’s Council session for their consideration.

Also at the meeting, some recommendations were adopted.  These were the development of a creative start-up ecosystem in the city by 2020 with a vision towards 2030, the residential land price adjustments for 2017, and the fees for environmental services to be imposed on organisations and individuals involved in tourism.
