Vice Chairman Dung remarked that the US government has helped to implement the ‘Removal of Dioxin Contamination at the Da Nang International Airport’ project and to provide much humanitarian aid for the city. He said that this has helped the two sides to strengthen their bilateral friendship and cooperative relationship.
The city leader asked VVA to continue creating favourable conditions for US non-govermental organisations and war veterans to provide humanitarian aid for Viet Nam, as well as to help the country enhance such sectors as education and healthcare.
In reply, Vice President Four expressed her delight at the fruitful results from the numerous cooperative programmes between VVA and Da Nang’s Friendship Organisations over recent years.
She continued, “VVA is implementing an initiative programme, initiated by the US war veterans, which aims to find and verify information to ensure effective searches for the remains of US servicemen. In the immediate future, more care will be provided for Vietnamese Agent Orange (AO)-affected victims and public awareness about the effects of AO amongst Vietnamese families will be increased”.
Also on Monday, the US group visited the families of 3 AO-affected victims in Hoa Vang District and they donated a pair of piglets to each of them.
