At the 8th Open Meeting of the Da Nang Party Committee (PC), municipal PC Deputy Secretary Vo Cong Tri reported that the city’s socio-economic sector maintained stable growth over the 1st quarter of this year.

The local business environment had been promoted significantly, whilst local security and welfare was also ensured.  Most notably, the number of international tourists to the city climbed by 58.3% compared with the same period last year.

Son Tra District PC Secretary Cao Xuan Thang noted that the loose coordination between relevant local agencies and the district’s authorities was mainly blamed for the problem of the unlicensed construction of the Bien Tien Sa eco-tourism area and the Central Coast projects in the district.

Therefore, Mr Thang suggested that the municipal authorities should issue specific regulations about managing the Son Tra Peninsula as soon as possible, with a focus on clearly identifying the detailed responsibilities of the authorities at all levels.

As for key tasks for the 2nd quarter of this year, Deputy Secretary Tri asked the local authorities to make plans to implement the national government-approved special mechanisms for Da Nang concerning investment, finance, budgetary status and decentralisation, and preferential policies for the Da Nang Hi-tech Park.

Stronger efforts should be made to implement the city’s projects by attracting more domestic and FDI inflows into the city, and developing local businesses towards 2020 in combination with promoting local business start-up activities.

Addressing the event, municipal PC Secretary Nguyen Xuan Anh vowed that specific instructions will be issued about strict penalties for anyone found to be negligent or in part responsible for the recent construction violations in order to make sure that such matters of deep concern never happen in the city again.

Secretary Anh urged the Hai Chau District authorities to continue with their efforts to clear the pavements for pedestrians along local major streets in a bid to ensure local urban order.

He stressed the need to accelerate the progress of the city’s key projects in preparation for such large-scale international events as the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week (AELW) and the Da Nang International Fireworks Festival (DIFF) 2017.  In addition, effective ways should be found to promote the ‘City of 4 Safe Programmes’ campaign effectively.

He also asked relevant agencies to fight against recent untruthful coverage by some online websites about some local issues because this problem has adversely affected the prestige of the city’s leaders and blighted the city’s image.
