Last Friday, Da Nang People’s Committee Vice Chairman Ho Ky Minh played host to a group of businesspeople from South Korea’s Daegu City and Gyeongbuk Province.  The delegation was led by Mr Yong Ho Jung, CEO of Koryo Electric Wire in Daegu City.

On behalf of the visitors, Mr Jung said that he was very impressed by Da Nang’s beautiful landscapes and its rapid economic growth over recent years.  He noted that this visit was a chance for the South Korean businesspeople to learn about Da Nang’s investment climate.

In reply, Vice Chairman Minh expressed his delight at the fruitful results from the bilateral cooperation with Daegu since October 2004.  Over recent years, Da Nang and Daegu have organised exchanges of government officials, pupils and students, as well as numerous cultural and charitable activities.  However, he remarked that the bilateral cooperation with Daegu in trading and investment was lower than expected, and that there are no Daegu businesses investing or opening representative offices in Da Nang.

Mr Minh took the opportunity to ask Mr Jung to do his utmost to appeal for more businesses from Daegu and Gyeongbuk to invest in Da Nang, especially in such aspects as transport infrastructure, trading, and information technology.  He vowed that the city authorities would create very favourable conditions for foreign investors to invest in the city.

In another meeting with Mr Sofian Akmal Abd Karim, the Malaysian Consul General in Ho Chi Minh City, Vice Chairman Minh affirmed “Top priority is being given to enhancing my city’s investment and business environment to attract more foreign investors, including any from Malaysia.”

Mr Minh asked the Malaysian diplomat to encourage media agencies from his country to advertise Da Nang to its citizens, as well as to promote the opening of more direct flights between Da Nang and Malaysia.

For his part, the Malaysian guest thanked the Da Nang leaders for facilitating businesses from his country to operate effectively in the city.  He pledged to do his utmost to strengthen bilateral cooperative relations with Da Nang in the years ahead.
