State President presses button to start countdown to AELW

This morning (18 April), Viet Nam’s President Tran Dai Quang and some of the Da Nang leaders together pressed buttons to officially start a digital clock at the roundabout of Ngo Quyen and Pham Van Dong streets, which will count down to the start of the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week (AELW) in the city on 5 November.

The attending municipal leaders were Party Committee Deputy Secretary Vo Cong Tri, People’s Committee (PC) Chairman Huynh Duc Tho, PC Vice Chairman cum Head of the Department of Publicity and Training Dang Viet Dung, and PC Vice Chairman Nguyen Ngoc Tuan.

Speaking at the ceremony, Vice Chairman Dung said, “The operation of this clock aims to publicise AELW 2017 to locals and domestic and foreign visitors, as well as to demonstrate the city’s readiness for this international-level political and economic event”.

He also remarked that local relevant agencies have made every effort to ensure their best preparations for the forthcoming event.  The construction of key infrastructure and accommodation establishments is well underway.

After the ceremony, President Quang paid inspection visits to the InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort, which will host most of the official seminars and conferences within the framework of AELW, and the Premier Village Danang Resort where he will stay and play host to his foreign high-ranking participating guests during this large-scale international event.

In addition, President Quang visited the site of the existing International Exhibition Fair Centre which is being developed into the international media centre.
