Enhancing cooperation in urban planning with Nikken Sekkei
On Thursday, Da Nang People’s Committee Chairman Huynh Duc Tho played host to a group of visitors from Japan’s Nikken Sekkei Civil Engineering Co Ltd (NSC), led by its Chairman of the Board of Directors, Mr Hideki Asami.

Chairman Asami said, “I am very impressed by Da Nang’s dynamic growth, especially the synchronous development of its infrastructure systems and its investment environment. My company is willing to cooperate with the city authorities in urban planning and infrastructure development work. I will do my utmost to appeal for even more of my country’s organisations and businesses to seek investment opportunities in Da Nang”.
In reply, Chairman Tho affirmed that Da Nang has established bilateral cooperative relationships with many Japanese localities. The focus has been on learning experiences in urban planning, its management and development work from these localities, and such businesses as NSC.
The city leader hoped that NSC would share its valuable experiences in urban planning and infrastructure development, especially urban underground space.
The origins of NSC go back to 1919 when the Osaka Hokko Wharf Company was formed for the renovation of Osaka North Port and development of the surrounding area in what would today be termed a PFI project. Its civil engineering technologies were taken over by the civil engineering department of Nikken Sekkei Ltd after World War II. NSC was founded in 2001 as a spinoff of the entire civil engineering department of Nikken Sekkei Ltd.
Over recent years, NSC has developed many urban planning projects in Viet Nam, including on Phu Quoc, the Ha Noi railway station re-development, and Ha Noi’s urban underground planning.
In 2013, the Da Nang authorities allowed NSC to conduct research and economic analysis for its Co Co River Development Project.
