Since the start of this year, Da Nang’s border guard forces have gained remarkable achievements in its performance.

A large number of patrols and checks have been conducted by the forces to ensure maritime and political security, enhance sea border protection, and protect the nation’s legitimate sovereignty over its territory waters.

Most notably, the border guards have made joint efforts with other relevant local agencies to ensure local ultimate security during the recent APEC Economic Leaders’s Week 2017- the culmination of Viet Nam’s year-long hosting of APEC meetings.

With regard to their great efforts to crack down on criminals, the local border guards detected and successfully dealt with a total of 130 criminal cases, including illegal drug trafficking and trading ones.  A total of 16 billion VND collected from the sales of the confiscated goods has gone to the State budget.

The municipal Border Guard High Command’s staff members have effectively handled entry, exit and transit procedures for 70 cruise ships carrying a total of over 82,000 passengers, plus 7 foreign military ships with a total of nearly 1,100 crew members onboard.

Apart from fulfilling their assigned tasks, the border guards have also been actively involved in various social and charitable activities.  A total of 340 million VND from the force’s budget has gone to help local social policy and needy families to build new houses or repair their downgraded ones.

Another positive sign is that great efforts have been made to ensure that offshore fishing vessels remain in close contact with the border guards to assist rescue work in case of accidents or dangerous situations at sea.

As for next year’s key tasks, stronger measures will be taken to warn Vietnamese fishermen not to conduct illegal seafood exploitations in foreign waters.

In a joint endeavour with other local agencies, appeals for public donations will be made to construct a multi-purpose cultural house on the Truong Sa Archipelago’s Da Lat Island in the coming time.

At a recent meeting, municipal People’s Committee Vice Chairman Ho Ky Minh asked the municipal Border Guard High Command to exert greater efforts to fight against drug-related criminals, smuggling cases and commercial frauds.

Special heed will be paid to ensuring local security during next year’s Da Nang International Fireworks Festival from 29 April to 30 June, continue implementing entry/exit procedures at local border stations, and enhancing sea border protection missions.

Also at this event, the municipal Border Guard was honoured with an emulation flag from the Viet Nam Border Guards High Command for taking a lead in patriotic emulation movements.

Also, 4 units and 7 individuals received Certificates of Merit from the Ministry of Defence.  In a similar vein, 5 units and 10 individuals were awarded Certificates of Merit from the Viet Nam Border Guards High Command for their outstanding achievements.
