However, Secretary Nghia said that the potentials for bilateral cooperation between Da Nang with Canadian localities and their businesses are yet to be fully tapped.  The city is now home to only 8 Canada-invested projects, with a total capital of 954,000 US$.

The city Party chief asked for help from the Canadian diplomat to appeal for more businesses from her country to invest in his city in such aspects as healthcare, education, tourism, IT, and hi-tech sectors.

Mr Nghia also said he would like the Canadian guest to faciliate his city to access information about Canada’s cooperation programmes with Viet Nam.

The host noted that some Da Nang leaders are planing to pay a working visit to Canada this year.  He also remarked that his city is seeking to strengthen further its relationship with some of Canadian localities in which share many similarities.  Hence, Da Nang needs assistance from the Canadian ambassador, the city’s top leader added.

Ambassador Kitnikone expressed her delight at the upcoming visit made by the city's leaders in the coming months.  She underlined the significance of Da Nang guests’ visit in fostering their city’s cooperative relation with Canadian localities.

The foreign diplomat said that, last year, Viet Nam-Canada comprehensive partnership was established, creating a new driving force to lift the bilateral ties to a new height.  In addition, the two countries have become members of the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP).  Together this will help to open up more opportunities to boost trade cooperation between Viet Nam and Canada, as well as facilitate trade and investment promotion activities between Da Nang and Canadian localities.
