US navy vessels to visit the city

US navy vessels including the carrier USS Carl Vinson, the guided missile cruiser USS Lake Champlain and the destroyer USS Wayne E. Meyer will pay a friendship port call to Da Nang from 5-9 March, A spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced.

The ministry’s spokesperson Le Thi Thu Hang on Thursday said that the planned visit programme includes a welcoming ceremony, press conference, courtesy calls, expertise discussions, sports events and other community events.

The US vessels’ visit to Viet Nam is conducted according to an agreement between the countries’ high-level leaders mentioned in the Viet Nam-US Joint Declaration during US President Donald Trump’s visit to Viet Nam in November 2017. It will continue to promote bilateral relations within the framework of the two countries’ comprehensive partnership and contribute to maintaining peace, stability, security and cooperation in the region, she said.

Regarding Viet Nam’s diplomatic activities this month, Viet Nam will host the 6th Summit of Greater Mekong Sub-region cooperation and the 10th summit on the development of triangle area: Cambodia-Laos-Viet Nam from 29-31 March in Ha Noi.

On this occasion, Viet Nam will also host the first Greater Mekong Sub-region Business Summit to promote the engagement of business community, development partners and framework of Greater Mekong Sub-region cooperation.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also announced that President Tran Dai Quang and his spouse will make a State visit to the Republic of India from 2-4 March and the People’s Republic of Bangladesh from 4-6 March.

This is Quang’s first visit to the Asian countries, since he took office, at the invitation of President of India Ram Nath Kovind and President of Bangladesh Mohammad Abdul Hamid.

Besides meetings with high-level leaders, President Quang will attend and deliver remarks at Viet Nam-India Business Forum and the Viet Nam-Bangladesh Business Forum.

In India, he will attend inaugural ceremony of Viet Nam’s cultural space. In Bangladesh, he will attend the launching of Viet Nam-Bangladesh friendship year on the occasion of 45th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
