According to a recent survey, 68.8% of the Da Nang population affirmed that the abolition of People’s Councils (PCls) at district and ward levels has not impacted on their representation and democracy rights.

Vice Chairman Minh said that since Da Nang was recognised as a centrally-governed city on 1 January 1997, the city has given top priority to implementing a municipal-level centralised management model. Currently, special attention is being paid to promoting decentralisation to district, commune and ward-level authorities for better management.

The host also said that his city would ask permission from the national government to implement a port government model on a trial basis in the coming time.

On behalf of the visiting guests, Deputy Minister Thua spoke highly of Da Nang’s experience in the organisation and operation of urban government. He also asked for help from Da Nang authorities to give more constructive opinions about the implementation of the pilot project for urban government in Ha Noi. He added that once Ha Noi’s urban government project is approved, it will facilitate Da Nang and other localities nationwide to deploy their similar projects.
