Winners of municipal Press Awards honoured

A ceremony recently took place in Da Nang to celebrate the 93rd anniversary of Viet Nam’s Revolutionary Press Day (21 June) and honour the winners of the city-level Press Awards 2018.

In attendance at the event were municipal Party Committee Deputy Secretary Vo Cong Tri, People’s Council Vice Chairman Nguyen Nho Trung, People’s Committee Vice Chairman Nguyen Ngoc Tuan, and other city leaders, and invited guests.

In his remarks at the event, the Vice Chairman of the Viet Nam Journalists’ Association and Chairman of the Da Nang Journalists' Association, Mr Mai Duc Loc, highlighted positive changes made by the news industry in Da Nang, and in Viet Nam as a whole, over the past 93 years.

Apart from providing their readers with multi-dimensional information in a prompt and effective manner, the news media helps to guide public opinion, honour good deeds in life, and strictly criticise any negative phenomena in society.

There were 140 entrants from a total of 24 national and local media agencies based in the city, with 89 examples of their work from several different genres, including print, online and broadcasting publications.

At the awards event, 5 first, 7 second, 11 third and 14 commendation prizes were awarded to the outstanding entrants.

Amongst the winners were reporters from the DA NANG Newspaper who received 1 first, 2 second and 3 third prizes.

According to the assessment by the contest’s organising board, most of the entries met the required criteria, in that they reflected the city’s progress and its rapid growth, as well as local guidelines and policies over the past year.

Addressing the event, the municipal People’s Committee Vice Chairman cum Head of the organising board of the 2017 municipal Press Awards, Mr Nguyen Ngoc Tuan, affirmed that the press has help the city authorities deal with issues raised across the city in more reasonably accurate manner.

The city leader hoped that media agencies would create more new products attractive to their readers and viewers, and many of them would win national and municipal-level press awards.

Also at the event, 7 individuals were presented recognition medals from the municipal Journalists' Association for their great dedication to the press.

Also, 6 pupils who are the children of the Association members receive scholarships, valued at 5 million VND each for their outstanding study results over the 2017 – 2018 academic year.
