Gratitude activities for social policy beneficiaries
Over recent years, Da Nang’s Ngu Hanh Son District has effectively implemented many practical and meaningful programmes assisting those who have given great service to the national revolution. These are considered as a move to promote the long-lasting national tradition of ‘when drinking water, think of its source’.

The district is now home to a total of more than 3,500 war-invalids, sick soldiers, senior revolutionaries, relatives of the fallen combatants, and about 500 heroic Vietnamese mothers, 42 of whom are still alive.
Since 2010, a total of 500 million VND was raised from the general public for the district-operated fund used to help social policy beneficiaries.
The authorities along with political and social organisations in the district have focused on enhancing the material and spiritual lives of Vietnamese heroic mothers, war invalids and relatives of martyrs, as well as ensuring that all local social policy families have stable houses.
Notably, the district has implemented a poverty reduction campaign and a meaningful programme for building and refurbishing houses for social policy families, seeing an active involvement and generous donations from the general public.
In the first half of this year alone, an amount of funding from the district budget and other financial sources went to help a total of 230 social policy families build their new houses or repair their downgraded ones.
Ms Huynh Thi Hong from Ngu Hanh Son District’s Khue My Ward, a martyr’s daughter, is one of the beneficiaries from this meaningful programme, said she felt secured whilst living in her new storm-resistant house after many years of dream.
She added that 60 million VND out of her house’s construction costs was funded by the programme budget.
Furthermore, another encouraging achievement gained by the district is its successful appeals for a large number of social organisations and businesses to voluntarily make commitment to take care of heroic Vietnamese mothers for the rest of their lives.
Also, the provision of frequent financial assistances to social policy families across the district and sponsoring children of martyrs and war-invalids have received high praise from the general public.
Mr Nguyen Hai, the Director of the district Social Insurance Division remarked his agency-made commitment to take care of heroic Vietnamese mothers for the rest of their lives.
In addition to this meaning activity, the granting of allowance to social policy families clearly show peacetime generations’ deep gratitude to those who laid down their lives for the reunification of the country, and help to relieve their relatives’ deep sorrow at the passing of their beloved ones.
Every month, some representatives from the district Social Insurance Division visit and present gifts to heroic Vietnamese mothers who this unit is in charge of caring for, and facilitate children of war invalids in Hoa Quy Ward to access long-term scholarships.
It is undeniable that the fine national tradition of ‘when drinking water, think of its source’ has deeply ingrained into the mind and consciousness of the district authorities and local residents.
Mr Phan Minh Dong, a martyr’s son in My An Ward, affirmed that the kind concern and great support from the authorities and locals really inspire social policy families to further uphold the national glorious revolutionary traditions and ardent patriotism, and to make greater dedication to the cause of national construction and protection.
