On the occasion, Director Yen conveyed a gift of cash, worth 10 million VND, and a congratulation letter, both from municipal People’s Committee Chairman Huynh Duc Tho, to Mrs Cam.

In his letter, Chairman Huynh Duc Tho couldnot hide his emotions when saying that miraculous and touching were the words to express his feelings after reading the article about Tu Cam on the Tuoi Tre (Youth) Newspaper on 17 August. The story of Tu Cam, a mother suffering from Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA), was really a fairy tale about maternal love.

He believed that magical love of a mother made Cam, who weighed as little as 25kg and clinically died three times, defy death to bring her daughter to this world.

He congratulated Mrs Tu Cam, her newborn baby and her family, on finishing an unbelievably painful journey which was full of boundless love, faith and sacrifice.

Chairman Tho highly praised doctors and nurses from the Da Nang General Hospital, especially surgeons who took the responsibilities for Mrs Cam’s caesarean section, for their great efforts in excellently fulfilling their tasks. He underlined that they not only showed their high sense of responsibility towards their career and their professional skills, but shared the pain and happiness with patients. He said proudly that they were pride for the city’s healthcare sector.

Twenty-five-year-old Tu Cam from Quang Ngai Province’s Nghia Hanh District was diagnosed with Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) when she became pregnant with her second child.

Since then, she suffered dramatic weight loss and became so skinny. She even could not breathe normally on her own and not eat food by herself.

Three times Mrs Cam clinically died. But when the doctor told her that her unborn child weighed less than a single kilogramme, she was determined to become as fit and healthy as possible.

After 32 weeks of pregnancy, Mrs Cam gave birth to a 1.9kg baby girl named ‘Ky Tich’ (Miracle) by cesarean section on 13 August.

Currently, Mrs Cam is still being treated at the Department of Intensive Care and Anti-Poisoning of the Da Nang General Hospital, whilst her newborn baby is being cared at the city’s Maternity and Paediatrics Hospital.
