According to a spokesperson for the Da Nang Youth Union (YU), a total of over 7,800 volunteers across the city participated in the 2018 summer volunteer campaign which ran between June and August.

Young people building concrete road in rural areas

In detail, these volunteers gave active support to a total of 5,230 candidates sitting for this year’s national senior high school graduation examination, built 1,710m of concrete roads in rural areas, cleaned up 2km of coastal streets, collected over 1.5 tons of litter, and removed 1,000 illegal advertisements.

In addition, they provided free medical check-ups and medicines for 3,700 poor people, as well as assited to build new houses and repair degraded ones with a total of 4, and to construct 2 sanitary facilities for social policy families.

The municipal YU became involved in building new houses and repairing degraded ones with a total of 20 houses totalling 400 million VND, for its poor members, students and pupils in the city, as well as donating sports and entertainment equipment, valued at 250 million VND in total, to 5 local districts.

Moreover, the organisation organised a voluntary work in Laos with the participation of 73 YU members, including young doctors, government employees, and university students.

Last Sunday, as many as 500 YU members took part in the ‘Da Nang’s Youth Pioneer in Keeping Plastic Out of the Oceans’ festive day.
