The MoU was signed by Ambassador Dang Dinh Quy, Head of the Permanent Delegation of Viet Nam to the United Nations, and UN Under-Secretary-General for Field Support Atul Khare at the UN headquarters in New York on Wednesday.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Khare expressed his belief that Viet Nam would deploy a high-quality hospital that could effectively contribute to the UN’s peacekeeping activities while hoping for more contributions from Viet Nam on this important mission.
This is the first time Viet Nam has sent military doctors to work with the UN’s peacekeeping force. A send-off ceremony will be organised on October 1 at HCM City’s Tan Son Nhat International Airport.
A total of 63 military doctors, most of whom are from Military Hospital 175, will travel to South Sudan, along with medical equipment, to take over a field hospital run by the United Kingdom, whose personnel are about to withdraw.
