UN Women actively supports city to stop violence against women and girls

On Monday, Da Nang People’s Committee Vice Chairman Dang Viet Dung played host to a group of visitors from the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade and the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UN Women). The delegation was led by Ms Kris Tay, a policy official of the Australian Department.

During his reception for the foreign guests, Vice Chairman Dung thanked the UN Women for its active support for his city and the muncipal Women’s Union to implement a project on encouraging the community to join efforts to stop violence against women and girls in the city.

Mr Dung also asked for help from the Australian government and the UN Women to continue providing aid to his city to carry out some programmes for women and children in a more practical and effective manner.

In reply, Ms Kris Tay highly applauded great achievements of the city’s Women’s Union during the implementation process of the project.

She also said the UN Women learned a lot from Da Nang’s experience in implementing the project effectively. She pledged to create even more favourable conditions for the city, and to engage all her organisation’s human and material resources in assiting the city gain better results in the coming time.

Funded by UN Women, the project on encouraging the community to join efforts to stop violence against women and girls has been implementing in the city since 2014.

The over 257,000 USD project aims to raise public awareness about helping women and girls, and to enhance the capacity of reconciliation and rapid response teams to address violent situations.
