The order was given in recognition of the centre’s excellent contributions to caring for the well-being of Vietnamese people and high-ranking leaders. Also on the occasion, three individuals working at the NCGM received second-class Labour Orders, and six others obtained third-class Labour Orders.
Speaking at the ceremony, head of the NCGM Norihiko Kokudo said that it is a great honour for the establishment to receive such a title.
He stated that during their nearly three decades of cooperation, the centre has always considered Viet Nam its most important international partner. The NCGM plans to push for comprehensive collaboration with the Vietnamese side in more fields outside of healthcare.
Since 1990, the NCGM, under the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labour, and Welfare, has supported Vietnam via programmes funded by the ministry and other projects of the Japan International Cooperation Agency and the World Health Organisation. It has sent 810 experts to Vietnam and received 648 Vietnamese for education and research purposes. The centre signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation with Bach Mai Hospital in Ha Noi and Cho Ray Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City, as well as with the healthcare committee for state officials.
