In 2018 alone, the Da Nang Border Guard force conducted 135 patrols in the sea. The purpose was to protect national maritime sovereignty, fight against crimes relating to the smuggling and trade frauds at sea, and ensuring the safety of foreign military ships arriving in the city.

In addition to long-time patrols in the sea, the Border Guard force encouraged fishermen to strictly abide by the laws, guidelines and policies of the Party and State, as well as to ensure security and safety on waterways.

Also, they towed 9 distressed fishing boats back to the mainland safely, and saved the lives of dozens of fishermen in danger at sea.

In particular, at 8.00pm on 9 December 2018, the rescuers from the Border Guard force received an SOS message from fishing boat BD 97837 TS from Binh Dinh Province. The boat, with 8 fishermen on board, had begun sinking after hitting a reef whilst being en route to the Tho Quang fishing wharf at latitude 16°12’N and longitude 108°12’E.

As a result, the rescue ship quickly reached the scene to save the lives of the 8 fishermen onboard, and to tow their distressed boat back to the mainland safely.
