City targets to become one of Asia's leading friendly-environmentally cities
On Tuesday, Vice Chairman of the Da Nang People’s Committee Dang Viet Dung chaired a meeting to check the preparations for a forthcoming review meeting for the implementation of the ‘Building Da Nang into a friendly-environmentally city’ project over the past decade.
Mr Dung said in the past the city’s streets were filled with garbage, and no wastewater treatment stations were built in the city.
He, however, added in recent years a large proportion of domestic waste in the inner city has been collected. In addition to building many wastewater treatment stations across the city, the locality has boasted modern wastewater collection and separation equipment.
Vice Chairman Dung also spoke highly of the joint efforts and great determination of both the city’s leaders and its residents in enhancing living environment.
He emphasised residents’ awareness about environmental protection has sharply increased over recent years, which has facilitated the city to continue implementing the project in a more effective and sustainable manner.
He also urged relevant departments and agencies to continue to build specific criteria to make Da Nang become one of Asia’s leading friendly-environmental cities in the future.
Also at the meeting, the municipal Department of Natural Resources and the Environment suggested a new set of evaluation criteria for friendly environmental city by 2025 to the city leader for consideration.
Accordingly, the new set will feature a total of 33 evaluation criteria, an increase of 23 against that of 2008.
Some highlights of the new set of evaluation criteria are over 80% of flooding hotspots across the city to be handled, and more than 97% of domestic solid waste to be collected and treated effectively.
The targets set for green space, transportation, and the effective use of renewable energy, are also set out in detail.
