Viet Nam has continued to receive condolences from leaders of many countries, including Brunei, Singapore, Thailand and the Republic of Korea (RoK), over the passing of former President Le Duc Anh.

General Le Duc Anh, who served as President of Viet Nam from September 1992 to December 1997, passed away on April 22 at the age of 99.

In his message sent to Party General Secretary and President of Viet Nam Nguyen Phu Trong, Brunei’s Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah offered the deepest condolences to the Vietnamese State and people and the family of the deceased.

He expressed his belief that the former President’s contributions to the peace and stability of Viet Nam will always be respected and remembered.

Singaporean President Halimah Yacob also extended condolences to General Secretary and President Trong, noting that her country viewed the death of the former leader as a great loss to the Vietnamese State and people.

She also highlighted the important role of former President Le Duc Anh in promoting the two countries’ relations, including the construction of the first Viet Nam-Singapore Industrial Park back in 1996 which has become a symbol of bilateral ties.

A message of condolences was also sent by Thai Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-o-cha to his Vietnamese counterpart Nguyen Xuan Phuc.

It emphasised the former President’s leadership and contributions to Viet Nam’s development, as well as his role in the enhancement of Thailand-Viet Nam relations.

In the condolences sent to General Secretary and President Trong, President Moon Jae-in, on behalf of the RoK’s Government and people, also offered his deep sympathies to the Vietnamese people and the bereaved family.

He highly valued the huge contributions that Le Duc Anh made to the RoK-Viet Nam friendship, adding that the former President’s career and dedication to the two countries’ relations will be remembered forever.

Sharing the grief with Viet Nam, leaders of China, Laos, Cambodia and Cuba earlier also extended condolences over the passing of former President Le Duc Anh.
