WB wants to become strategic partner of Da Nang

The World Bank (WB) wants to become one of Da Nang’s strategic partners in the future.

This statement was made by Mr Ousmane Dione, the Country Director of World Bank (WB) in Viet Nam during his meeting on Saturday afternoon with leaders of the municipal Party Committee (PaC).

The meeting was attended by municipal PaC Secretary Truong Quang Nghia and Deputy Secretary Vo Cong Tri, and municipal People’s Committee Chairman Huynh Duc Tho, along with representatives from local departments and agencies.

During his meeting with Mr Ousmane Dione, Secretary Nghia highly appreciated WB for its great support given to his city over recent years. He said he would like WB to continue assisting Da Nang to effectively implement the Da Nang Sustainable Development Project, and such key projects as the Lien Chieu Port, subway and urban railway.

The city Party chief remarked his city has been facing many problems with solid waste management, overloaded transport infrastructure, and the shortage of fresh water. He, therefore, asked for help from WB to deal with these problems in the city.

“Da Nang has the advantages of appealing for private investment and the public-private partnership (PPP) format is very suitable for the development of the city. Therefore, my city needs a helping hand from WB to effectively implement our key projects in the time ahead”, Mr Nghia noted.

In reply, Director Ousmane Dione expressed his delight at the fruitful results from the cooperative programmes with Da Nang in recent years. He pledged to do his utmost to tighten the bilateral cooperative relations with the city in the coming time.

“WB always wants to become a strategic partner of Da Nang, hoping that the 2 sides will soon sign a Memorandum of Understanding to boost our cooperative relations, and to create a premise for concretise cooperative plans and programmes in the future”, the WB representative emphasised.
