Japanese Coast Guard ship visits the city

On Thursday afternoon, the Japan Coast Guard (JCG) training vessel KOJIMA, carrying a crew of 87, led by its captain Hironobu Tonosaki, docked at Da Nang-based Tien Sa Port to begin 4-day courtesy visit to the city.

This is the 6th visit made by such a JCG ship to the central Vietnamese city.

The Vietnamese and Japanese coast guard forces are active members of the Regional Cooperation Agreement on Combating Piracy and Armed Robbery against Ships in Asia (ReCAAP). Over recent years, the two sides have promoted their cooperation in enhancing law enforcement capacity at sea.

During their stay in the city, the Japanese ship’s crew members will pay courtesy visits to the municipal government leaders, the High Command of Viet Nam Coast Guard and the Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) of Zone II.

Also, the Japanese naval officers and sailors will take part in exchange activities with their colleagues from the Viet Nam Coast Guard Zone 2.

The ongoing visit by KOJIMA provides a good opportunity for the coast guard forces of the two countries to exchange their experience in ensuring maritime security in the region, as well as to boost their cooperation and mutual understanding.

The 115m- long and 14m- wide KOJIMA has a displacement of 3,000 tonnes and a maximum velocity of up to 18 nautical miles per hour.

 The visit of KOJIMA aims to boost bilateral experience exchanges in enhancing law enforcement capacity at sea, ensuring maritime security in the region, and boosting their mutual understanding.
