It was reported that 609 humanitarian programmes and projects, in total involving nearly 940 billion VND donated by non-governmental organisations (NGOs), were deployed across the city during the 2013 - 2018 period.

These meaningful programmes, which brought many benefits to the disabled, the poor, Agent Orange victims, and other disadvantaged ones in society, mainly involved such aspects as healthcare, education, vocational training, environmental protection, community development support, and social problem solving.

These facts were released at Wednesday’s meeting between the city authorities and representatives from NGOs.

At the event, representatives from the NGOs highly praised the municipal administration for having issued guidelines, policies and legal documents which created favourable conditions for their operation.

Encouragingly, the NGOs-donated money was used in an effective and efficient manner, thereby helping to realise the city’s goals of socio-economic development and social welfare.

In his remarks at the event, Vice Chairman of the municipal People's Committee Le Trung Chinh affirmed that NGOs-funded projects and programmes have positively helped the city reach its poverty reduction and socio-economic development goals, enhance the living conditions of locals, especially those who directly gained benefits from these projects.

The city leader, in particular, urged local authorities to secure good relationships with the existing NGOs and establish relationships with new ones as well, in tandem with the publicity of the land and people of Da Nang to the international community.

He also expressed his belief that NGOs and philanthropists from both home and abroad would continue to give even more aid to his locality in the years to come.
