This statement was made by municipal Party Committee Secretary Truong Quang Nghia at his Thursday reception for Japanese Ambassador to Viet Nam Kunio Umeda. Also, present at the event was municipal People’s Committee Vice Chairman Ho Ky Minh.

The Party Chief remarked, over recent years, Da Nang and some Japanese localities have promoted their economic cooperation programmes, and organised numerous exchange activities in culture, education and training, healthcare, and security, and defence.

Mr Nghia also asked for help from the Japanese diplomat to encourage even more Japanese businesspeople to seek investment opportunities in his city.

He pledged that the municipal authorities would make every effort to deal with problems and difficulties facing the city-based Japanese businesses during their operation in the city.

Secretary Nghia also urged municipal Department of Foreign Affairs and relevant agencies to seek suitable location for Japan to open a Consulate General in Da Nang soon. He also highlighted the significance of the establishment of the Japanese Consulate General in boosting tourism development in the city, and exchange activities with Japanese localities.

In reply, Japanese ambassador Umeda revealed that Japan planned to open a consulate office in Da Nang in early 2020. He, therefore, hoped that the municipal government would facilitate Japan to promote the opening of this office as soon as possible.

Mr Umeda hoped that more direct flights between Da Nang and Japanese localities would be opened in the time ahead in a bid to facilitate Japanese travellers to come to Da Nang.

He also took the opportunity to thank the Da Nang leaders for facilitating the Japan Coast Guard training vessel to dock the city’s port safely to pay 4-day courtesy visit to the city.
