Vice Chairman Trung briefed his Chinese guest on the city’s socio-economic progress and the bilateral relationships with some Chinese localities over recent years.
He remarked, to date, Da Nang has established friendly cooperation relations with such Chinese localities as Shandong Province, Jiangsu Province, Macao Special Administrative Region, and Yunnan Province’s Kunming City.
Currently, Chinese tourists have ranked 2nd in the number of foreign visitors to Da Nang after South Korean nationals. In the first half of the year, the total export and import turnover between Da Nang and China hit 21 million USD and 125 million USD respectively.
Mr Trung noted Da Nang and Jiangsu Province signed a cooperation agreement in 1999, but their bilateral cooperation has recorded lower than expected results. He, therefore, hoped that the Jiangsu government would give a helping hand to Da Nang to promote its economic growth in the coming time.
In reply, Vice Chairman Liu Handong said that Jiangsu was one of the most developed provinces in east China. The province boasts its strengths and advantages in the development of manufacturing industry and tourism.
The Chinese guest added that his province and Da Nang shared many similarities. He expressed his hope that more exchange activities would be organised in the years ahead in a bid to foster the bilateral relations between the two localities.
