A total of more than 80 delegates from policymaking units of defence ministries of 10 ASEAN member countries, and from the ASEAN Secretariat, attended a meeting of the ASEAN Defence Senior Officials' Meeting Working Group (ADSOM WG) in Da Nang on Thursday.

It is the first meeting in a series of military-defence activities since Viet Nam assumed the 2020 ASEAN Chairmanship earlier this year.

The ADSOM WG meeting aims to fine-tune the contents and make preparations for the ASEAN Defence Senior Officials’ Meeting (ADSOM), the 14^th ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting (ADMM), and the 7^th ADMM Plus.

During the meeting, the participants were introduced to the ASEAN defence cooperation process, reviewed new initiatives and three-year action plan for the ADMM, and built documents for ADMM 14 and ADMM Plus.

Today, 10 January, the ADSOM Plus WG meeting is taking place in the city with the participation of over 120 delegates from 10 ASEAN member nations, and 8 partners of Australia, China, India, Japan, New Zealand, South Korea, the USA and Russia.
