City leader hosts Japanese businesspeople

On Wednesday afternoon, Da Nang People’s Committee Chairman Huynh Duc Tho warmly received a group of businesspeople from the Japanese Business Association (JBA).

The delegation was co-led by Mr Onose Takahisa, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City-based Ernst & Young Accounting and Auditing Company cum Chairman of the JBA in Da Nang for the 2020-2021 term, and Mr Yakabe Yoshinori, Head of the Japanese Consulate Office in Da Nang.

During their meeting with the city leaders, Japanese entrepreneurs expressed their deep impression on the city’s rapid growth over recent years. In addition, and they highlighted the importance of boosting bilateral trade ties with Da Nang in the coming time.

Mr Yakabe Yoshinori asked for help from the municipal government to seek suitable location to open the Japanese Consulate General in Da Nang soon.  

Mr Onose Takahisa also said that Da Nang will welcome more Japanese businesses to seek investment opportunities in the time ahead because land-lease fees in the city are cheaper than in other large cities in Viet Nam.

Also, JBA representatives underscored the significance of developing high-quality human resources, and reducing time for granting land use right certificates in Da Nang in order to attract even more Japanese investors to the city.

Importance should be attracted to handling harassment of tourists at Da Nang International Airport to make Da Nang a civilised and friendly destination in the eyes of international friends, especially those from Japan.

In reply, Chairman Tho highly praised JBA for its great efforts in promoting Da Nang’s development over recent years.

He said Japan is currently the largest foreign investor in Da Nang with 204 projects totalling 901 million USD. The majority of Japanese-invested projects are involved in processing, construction, and information technology industries.

In 2019 alone, some Japanese-invested projects were carried out effectively in the city, including the Mikazuki Spa & Hotel Resort project, and a project to expand sports equipment factory of the Daiwa Vietnam Co., Ltd.

The city leader pledged that the municipal government would create very favourable conditions for Japanese businesses to operate effectively in the city.

On behalf of the JBA, Chairman Onose Takahisa thanked the city leaders for their active support for the Japanese business community. He expressed his belief that Da Nang would maintain its attractiveness to foreign investors, especially those from Japan.
