Recent years, UNICEF Viet Nam has actively helped Da Nang facilitate children’s access to technology in learning, especially its engagement in projects benefiting the vulnerable and disadvantaged.

The statement was made by municipal People’s Committee Vice Chairman Le Trung Chinh during his recent reception for Ms Rana Flowers, the UNICEF Representative to Viet Nam, to discuss the ways to boost bilateral cooperation with this UN agency.

Vice Chairman Trung commended UNICEF for its efforts in supporting the global network of child-friendly cities, especially its already-approved support plan for the city during the 2020 - 2021 period through the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs.

Like in other localities nationwide, distance learning online and on television was offered to pupils in the city during over 3-month school closures in the Covid-19 outbreak. With this proactive and flexible approach, distance learning has proved to be effective in the early stage, not only in managing pupil during social distancing but also ensuring continuing learning despite school closure. Positively, to date, no dropouts have been recorded in the city due to this unprecedented upheaval.

Ms Rana Flowers applauded the Da Nang government for efforts to benefit children over recent years.
She added is UNICEF Viet Nam is now working closely with the Ministry of Education and Training and 25 technology companies to ensure that each children will have access to a WiFi learning platform right from the pre-school level. For the time being, the making of a strategic plan is underway in a bid to give students the fastest access to technology and innovation, and acquire the necessary skills as well.

On that basis, the cooperative ties between UNICEF and Da Nang in the 2020 - 2021 period and the subsequent years will focus on a number of key issues. Notable amongst them will be the incorporation of child-related indicators into the city’s urban strategic planning and the socio-economic development plan for the 2020 – 2025 period.
