In response to Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc's appeal to help homes in some parts of Central Viet Nam affected by two weeks of heavy rain causing widespread flooding, residents across Da Nang have come together to provide clothes, food, and medical and essential goods for flood victims in a bid to help them partly overcome their current hardships.

Fundraising events have taken place across Da Nang.

The Da Nang Young Entrepreneurs’ Association expects to raise about 500 million VND in cash and in-kind donations to help heavily-flooded provinces of Quang Binh, Quang Tri, Ha Tinh and Thua Thien Hue.

The Da Nang Youth Union has raised money to provide essential goods to flooded communities.

The Youth Union organisation of the Da Nang Department of Health has provided water and milk bottles, food, medicine, household utensils and learning tools, plus other essentials for flooded Quang Binh and Quang Tri provinces to support affected residents there.

Students from the Da Nang University of Economics have been actively got involved in providing cash and in-kind support for the worst-hit areas.

Central Viet Nam has been devastated by historic floods triggered by 30-year record rainfall of up to 3,000 mm in ten days.

Between 6 and 19 October, the death toll in Viet Nam rose to 106, with 27 others still missing.

The flooding has isolated many communities and affected the lives of more than 135,000 households, destroyed 12 highways and 17.4 km of local roads; damaged 924 ha of rice and 106,616 ha of other crops, and killed or washed away more than half a million heads of cattle and poultry.

In addition, hundreds of houses and many infrastructure facilities have been inundated and damaged, dealing a staggering blow to the livelihoods of millions of people across Central Viet Nam, particularly those in heavily-flooded provinces of Thua Thien Hue, Quang Binh, Quang Tri and Ha Tinh.

Residents in the flood-prone localities are now desperately in need of cash and in-kind aid to overcome their current difficulties and continue with their lives, and especially to allow their children to go back to school soon.
