In his remarks at the celebration event, Da Nang People’s Committee Vice Chairman Tran Van Mien said, over recent years, Da Nang has given top priority to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children with a focus on ensuring and providing the best levels of care and protection for them.
Besides, Da Nang government has provided funding and used other financial resources to build modern healthcare systems, upgrade facilities in schools across the city to provide the best services for teaching and learning activities, and create more public entertainment spaces for children.
Vice Chairman Mien took the opportunity to thank UNICEF for its active assistance to provide quality care and education for Da Nang children over recent years. Mr Mien pledged that the municipal authorities would continue to issue new welfare policies and carry out international treaty on children’s rights and UNICEF Child Friendly Cities Initiatives.
Also at the event, the Situation Analysis (SitAn) of Children and Adolescents in Da Nang was revealed.
The analysis was prepared by Da Nang and UNICEF from 2019 with a view to helping Da Nang identify priorities to develop itself into a child-friendly city.
The analysis highlighted a number of significant achievements in child care and protection the city has gained over the past 2 years.
In particular, more than 98% of children in Da Nang are studying at public schools.
Since Viet Nam’s first human milk bank was opened at the Da Nang Maternity and Paediatrics Hospital in 2017, the rate of newborns who are breastfed early as soon as possible after birth, within the first hour after delivery, has reached 98.17%.
Additionally, many welfare policies and programmes have been issued to support poor, disabled and homeless children.
In response to the World Children’s Day 2020, Da Nang is lighting up the Rong (Dragon) Bridge and the Han River Bridge in the evenings from 17-20 November.
