Da Nang and Quang Nam step up bilateral cooperation

A handful of highly feasible measures to strengthen bilateral cooperation and boost links between Da Nang and its neighbour, Quang Nang Province, were taken into account at the Monday meeting between leaders of the two localities.

The meeting were attended by Da Nang leaders, including municipal Party Committee Secretary Nguyen Van Quang, municipal Party Committee Deputy Secretary Luong Nguyen Minh Triet, and municipal People's Committee Chairman Huynh Duc Tho, and their Quang Nam counterparts.

It was reported that recent years have seen many fruitful results from the bilateral ties, especially in such aspects as tourism, investment promotion, infrastructure construction, the exploitation of natural resources and minerals, education, health care, social security, and national defence.

The two localities have actively coordinated with each other to push ahead the implementation of the large-scale Da Nang University Village project, the dredging the Co Co River, which runs through their parts, plus the development of the Da Nang - Hoi An - Dien Ban triangle region and business cooperation through Nam Giang Border Gate.

Also, Da Nang and its neighbour made joint efforts in adjusting the regulations regarding the water discharge by the hydropower reservoirs in the form of phase difference so as to ensure  the delivery of adequate water in their downstream areas during the dry season.

Between 2016 and 2019, around 61 billion VND in financial assistance from Da Nang went to support Quang Nam for the latter’s social security schemes.

In addition, since the start of 2020, Da Nang has donated 20 billion VND to Quang Nam Province to help it tackle heavily damages caused by hash weather conditions.

The meeting also saw the mutual consent between the two localities’ leaders on many cooperation schemes, such as asking for fundings from Viet Nam's national government to continue the deployment of  the Da Nang University Village project and the upgrading of the NH14G, NH14B and NH14D roads linking the two localities, plus the development of the Nam Giang - Dac Ta Ooc border gate into an international-level one.

Also, the participants got involved in discussions on the feasibility study of the prominent Da Nang - Hoi An tourist railway project to bring up interesting brand new travel experience to visitors.

In particular, both Da Nang Party Committee Secretary Nguyen Van Quang and his Quang Nam counterpart Phan Viet Cuong agreed on proceeding the progress of the dredging the Co Co River so that it could be completed in 2025 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the two localities.

The dredging of the 20 km-long river work as part of a project to develop a waterway route connecting two of Central Viet Nam’s most well known tourist destinations for driving their tourism development.

This waterway project is expected to showcase such features as tourists boats, bridges, wharves and recreational centres, rest stops, parking lots, food and souvenir shops, emerging as alternatives to exploring Da Nang and Hoi An by car or motorbike as currently.

Besides, the two localities’ leaders also mulled over the building of Quang Da Bridge spanning across the Yen River, which connects Hoa Khuong Commune, Hoa Vang District, Da Nang with Dien Tien Commune, Dien Ban Town, Quang Nam Province to considerably to cut travel time between Da Nang and Quang Nam.
