In 2020, close to 26,000 officers and men of Da Nang-based Military Zone 5 were active in helping local residents cope with the aftermath of natural disasters.

The military officers and men worked closely with relevant agencies to timely inform 26, 490 fishing boats operating at sea on the position, direction and movement of tropical storms, thereby allowing fishermen to take the initiative to avoid dangerous areas or seek safe shelter from the storms.

They were actively involved in evacuating 292, 497 people from vulnerable mountainous and low-lying areas to safer ones in an effort to cope with heavy floods and strong storms, as well as searching for and rescuing 329 people missing or injured as ordered by the authorised officials.

Also, local military forces staffed checkpoints in the city around the clock in order to contain further spread of the novel coronavirus.

The Da Nang-based Military Zone 5 partnered with health agencies to conduct Covid-19 testing for 13,686 people citywide. Military facilities in Da Nang received nearly 24,000 Vietnamese returnees from coronavirus-hit countries following Da Nang government’s regulations.
