Da Nang Party Committee Secretary Nguyen Van Quang and Deputy Minister of Public Security Nguyen Duy Ngoc co-chaired a meeting on Monday to review the implementation of the national population database and ID card issuance and management projects in the city.

Also, leaders of the departments of Public Security of Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Thua Thien Hue and Quang Tri provinces made their presence at the event.

In his remarks at the review meeting, Secretary Quang said these two projects, developed and implemented by the Vietnamese government, reflect the Government’s determination to shift from paper-based to electronic document management.

The national database on population is the most important among the six national databases to promote the building of an e-Government, a digital society and a digital economy.

Meanwhile, the project on citizen ID card production, issuance and management was approved by the national government last September. Vietnamese Ministry of Public Security expects to issue chip-based ID cards to 50 million eligible citizens by 1 July this year.

The Da Nang Party chief highlighted the significance of the projects in driving the city’s growth and ensuring its security and defence.

Deputy Minister Ngoc commended Da Nang government, and public security units across the city for their efforts in carrying out the two projects.

Mr Ngoc also asked local police to be fully aware of the importance and urgency of these projects, as well as to make detailed plans and specific roadmap for the completion of the two projects as scheduled. The focus should be on realising the national target of issuing chip-based ID cards to 50 million eligible citizens by 1 July this year.
