Finland willing to support Da Nang in smart urban development

During his meeting on Thursday with Finnish Ambassador to Viet Nam Kari Kahiluoto, Da Nang People's Committee Standing Vice Chairman Ho Ky Minh highly appreciated the fruitful relationship between Da Nang and Finnish localities over recent years.

Vice Chairman Minh, in particular, thanked the Finnish diplomat for his great efforts in contributing to strengthening the ties between Da Nang and Finnish partners and businesses.

Da Nang, for the time being, is on track of implementing the Politburo-adopted Resolution No 43-NQ/TW regarding its development orientations by 2030 with a vision toward 2045, with a target of developing its into a modern-smart, ecological and global city, and turning the city into a center for entrepreneurship and innovation, in Asia.

Under the resolution, focus is placed on developing on 5 strategic breakthroughs, namely tourism, high-quality services associated with vacation properties; seaports and aviation associated with logistics services; hi-tech industry in combination with the construction of innovative start-up urban area; IT, electronics and telecommunications associated with digital economy; and hi-tech agricultural products and fisheries.

The city is now looking forwards strengthening bilateral cooperation with Finland - a country boasting extensive experience in the above-mentioned fields- through investment, financial sources from official development assistance (ODA) and non-governmental organisations (NGOs), as well as technology transfer and other forms of international cooperation.

Ambassador Kahiluoto said, last year saw COVID-19 significantly affect cooperation and exchange activities between the two countries. He hoped that, in the coming time, once the global COVID-19 is put under control, bilateral cooperation activities will resume.

Of special note, the Finnish diplomat affirmed his country’s willingness to support Da Nang in developing waste treatment plants, sharing experience in smart urban, energy, seaport, logistics, public transport and waterway traffic infrastructure development in the time ahead.
